PDT Sports Report

It didn’t matter which opponent Portsmouth had in Saturday’s semifinal of the KSA Events Tournament, the Trojans wanted to play for a title.

Peighton Williams led all scorers with 17 points in the win. Portsmouth will play in Monday’s championship against Palm Beach Springs (Fla.) Benjamin High School, a team is 1-0 against teams from the Buckeye State this tournament after a 44-39 win over Morral Ridgedale in Friday’s opener. Tipoff from Orlando is slated for 9:30 a.m.

Saturday Postponements

With this weekend’s winter storm passing through the region, a number of Saturday’s games were postponed in both boys and girls basketball.

The quadruple header of the New Boston Holiday Tournament headlines the list of games that were affected. The boys consolation game between East and the Ashland (Ky.) Rose Hill Christian Royals as well as the championship game pitting the host Tigers and South Webster has been moved to Wednesday night.

On the girls side, no makeup date has been set on how the finishing order of the tournament will take place. New Boston was scheduled to play Rock Hill in the third place game while Minford and Rose Hill Christian were set to battle for the girls crown.

This is the second game the Falcon girls basketball team will have to be made up. A Dec. 8 trip to Paint Valley was also postponed and has yet to be rescheduled.

The same fate fell upon the girls SOC I contest between Notre Dame and Western. It was slated as the final game before the second round of conference play for both schools. No date has been set on when it will be rescheduled.

The Titan boys also had their home game with Raceland (Ky.) postponed because of the weather. No makeup date either for that contest.

In a test against a traditionally-strong Southeast District Division II girls team, Wheelersburg’s road meeting with Miami Trace also has to be played at a later date.

At press time, Valley traveled to Unioto while the holiday tournaments in Pike and Adams counties took place as scheduled. Visit portsmouth-dailytimes.com for the results of these contests.
