J.P. Kayser was one rebound shy of a double-double Saturday morning as Notre Dame defeated Allen (Ky.) Wesley Christian 61-44 to open up the third day of action in the 2012 Ironton Classic.


Kayser finished the contest with 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists to lead the Titans. Kevin Lewis added 14 and three steals in the victory for Notre Dame, which won two games in less than 24 hours.


The Titans rest up until next Saturday where they face another team from the Bluegrass State in the Raceland Rams.

A third-straight weekend of playing Friday-Saturday contests did not bode well for Portsmouth this weekend as the Trojans dropped a 92-49 decision Saturday to Columbus Brookhaven in the final day of the 2012 Ironton Classic.

Alex Dickerson led Portsmouth with nine points and Jayllen Carter added eight. The Trojans return home next Friday to face Minford in a game titled “Hoops for Hope.”

A 12-0 run late in Saturday’s contest squashed Peebles’ last chance to stay undefeated as the Indians lost 83-57 to Columbus Africentric during the final day of the 2012 Ironton Classic.

Beau Justice led Peebles with 23 points, Trent Arey added 15 and Matthew McAdow chipped in with 11. The Indians take on West Union Thursday as a part of the Adams County Holiday Tournament.

Kalen Jenkins’ 18-point, 12-rebound outing helped Piketon snap a six-game losing streak as the Redstreaks defeated Pike County rival Waverly 53-48 in the semifinals of the Pike County Holiday Tournament at Eastern High School.

Bri Wiget led all scorers with 22 points in the loss. Piketon will face the winner of the Western-Eastern contest in Thursday’s championship game. The Tigers will get the loser in the consolation game.
