Friday marked the first day of winter and the first snow of the season, and many area roads were conditioned by the Ohio Department of Transportation. According to the National Weather Service, more freezing rain and snow is on the way.

A low pressure system will move through the area Sunday night and into Christmas Eve bringing with it the possibility of snow and probability of rain.

While the weather system is not expected to be hazardous, ODOT crews will likely be at work tonight and tomorrow. Crews were active Friday afternoon and evening treating roads as a storm brought gusting winds and some snow accumulation to Scioto County.

An ODOT release Friday afternoon reminded drivers that while routes may appear mostly clear, caution is still encouraged. Ice can form quickly, without warning as temperatures drop, according to the release.

Though the sight of plowtrucks is nothing new to winter motorists, ODOT still encourages said motorists to give plowtruck drivers room to work. The large, heavy equipment makes it difficult for operators to maneuver and to see other vehicles.
