A 16-8 scoring edge in both the second and third quarters was more than enough for host South Webster to knock off Portsmouth 58-44 in Thursday’s nonconference tilt.


Kaci Messer led the Jeeps with 16 points as Kacie Hall and Taylor Shonkwiler each chipped in with 11. Hall also had six assists.


Peighton Williams led all scorers with 19 and Kayleigh White added 12 in the loss. The Trojans go on the road Saturday to Gallia Academy. After the break, South Webster hosts Clay in next Thursday’s nonconference game.

Clay 57, New Boston 36

Madison Whitley’s 14 points and 13 points each from Emily Widdowson and Katie Redding helped Clay to a 57-36 SOC I win at New Boston Thursday, three days after it was originally scheduled.

Redding pulled down 12 rebounds and Whitley grabbed seven. Kiersten McGraw had 16 points to lead all scorers. Shawna Buckley finished with 13 for the Tigers.

The Panthers venture to South Webster next Thursday. New Boston plays host that night to the New Boston Holiday Tournament against a yet-to-be announced opponent.

SVC co-leader Unioto came into Piketon Thursday night and left with a 56-34 conference win over the Redstreaks thanks to three Shermans in double figures.

Ashlee Lawhorn led Piketon with 13 points. Kalen Jenkins added 11.

The Redstreaks travel Saturday night to face Waverly at Eastern High School in the semifinals of the 2012 Pike County Holiday Tournament.

Michael Hafer’s double-double sent West into the holiday break on a high note as the Senators defeated Ironton St. Joseph 53-43 in the first day of the 2012 Ironton Classic.

The junior tied for the game-high in points with 14 and added 11 rebounds. JB Travis finished with 10 points, nine rebounds and seven steals.

West returns to action in two weeks to host Rock Hill.
