Tamara Nathan has resigned as Portsmouth City Clerk to take a position as assistant general manager of a Taco Bell restaurant in South Point, Ohio — and Nathan says it means a major increase in salary.
“My resignation is effective Dec. 26,” Nathan said. “That day, the 26th, is when I start my new job. I have accepted a position at Taco Bell as assistant general manager in South Point, Ohio, with a huge pay increase. I’m very very excited. It’s a better paying job. It’s fast-paced. There’s lots of room for advancement. So I’m very very excited for this opportunity at Taco Bell. December 26th is Merry Christmas to me.”
Nathan’s salary as City Clerk is $24,000. Is she going to miss her current job?
“Yeah, I guess,” Nathan said. “The hours were nice. I believe it could be part time. I believe it should be and I have said as much. There’s emails back and forth about it.”
On Monday morning, Nathan sent an e-mail to all the members of Portsmouth City Council.
“I would like to thank you for the opportunity to work with each of you and with the great City of Portsmouth. I have recently accepted another position outside the City. I am hereby submitting my resignation as Portsmouth City Clerk to be effective December 26, 2012. I would hope to have the opportunity to train my replacement and continue the advances into the 21st century that this office has accomplished over the last year. I hope to make the transition as smooth as possible,” Nathan said. “I wish this City Council and the City of Portsmouth the best in the future.”
Nathan said she plans to commute from her residence in Scioto County.
“When I worked at AT&T it was about a 45-minute drive,” Nathan said. “This is going to be about a 45-minute drive and it’s straight highway.”
Former City Clerk Jo Ann Aeh retired from her position in the fall of 2011, and Nathan was hired after Council interviewed several candidates for the position.
