Fire burns New Boston auto service garage
PDT Staff Writer
New Boston Fire Chief Chris Bender, several firefighters and investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office, all stood in front of the badly-burned John Conley’s Auto Service, 4205 Gallia St., New Boston, Tuesday morning as investigators prepared to enter into the area that had been consumed by fire a few hours earlier.
“At three-something this morning the guys got a call up here that Conley’s was on fire,” Bender said. “That’s pretty much all we know right now.”
Bender said early-on they had called the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and that their office had responded quickly.
“We called them in so they could do their investigation on it,” Bender said. “They’re here now.”
Bender said no one was in the building at the time the fire broke out. Bender said Engine 3 and Engine 4 and Car 2 from Portsmouth, along with Engine 5, were at the scene, and he called all off-duty firefighters out to help fight the blaze.
“They were closed up through the night,” Bender said. “The guys did a great job confining the fire to those three bays. There is so much more of the structure that could have burned. The other parts will have some smoke damage, but we were able to contain the fire to those three bays.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
