With only minimal time to practice last Saturday in a brand new gym before its season opener Monday, host New Boston got off to a slow start but finished strong in a 36-25 SOC I win over Green.

Kiersten McGraw picked up where she left off last year as she led the Tigers with 17 points and 19 rebounds on the night. Shawna Buckley added 14 points, four assists and four steals in the win.

Giulia Elli led the Bobcats with 15 points. In Thursday’s action, New Boston hosts Eastern and Green plays its home opener against Western, a night after the Bobcats make a trip to Ironton St. Joseph.

Notre Dame 45, Eastern 40

Defending SOC I champion Notre Dame started off on the right foot Monday night as Brooke Pierron’s five 3-pointers helped offset Jen Arnzen’s quiet night in a 45-40 win for the Titans over host SOC I foe Eastern.

Pierron scored 15 of her game-high 22 points in the first half. Arnzen was held to 0-for-6 shooting from the field but the Eagles’ plan to make her earn points backfired when she finished 14-of-15 from the line as she also grabbed 15 rebounds.

Carson Roney led Eastern with 14 and Chandler Brown chipped in with 13. Notre Dame plays its first home game of the season Thursday when East pays a visit while the Eagles are at New Boston.

Symmes Valley 65, East 26

Host Symmes Valley proved to be too much for East in Monday’s SOC I opener for both schools as the Vikings came away with a 65-26 victory.

Kayla Hayes led Symmes Valley with 14 points and Kalli Hunt chipped in with 10 as 11 Vikings figured in the scoring column. Jessie Monroe led the Tartans with 14 as well.

East will try to rebound Thursday in a road contest with Notre Dame. Symmes Valley travels to Clay.

Minford 59, Valley 50

Carrie Wynn’s 18 points helped host Minford down SOC II rival 59-50 in Monday’s conference opener for both schools.

Kylie Berry and Brooklyn Yeley’s 13 points each helped contribute in the victory. McKenzie Coriell led the Indians with 18 points and Darby High finished with 16 points and nine rebounds.

The Falcons travel Thursday to Waverly while Valley battles Northwest.

Three South Webster players, including Kacie Hall’s team-high 15 points and six steals, paced the host Jeeps to a 63-38 win over Northwest in SOC II action.

Kaci Messer added 14 points and Haley Stanley’s six rebounds complimented her 11 points in the victory. Darbie Jenkins led the Mohawks with a game-high 16 points.

South Webster travels Thursday to Oak Hill and Northwest plays Valley.

Wheelersburg earned its first SOC victory of the season with a 56-30 road win over Waverly Monday evening.

Fay Proehl had a game-high 22 points for the Lady Pirates while teammate Sydney Holden chipped in a dozen points.

Waverly’s Kilee Perdue had a team-high 10 points.

Oak Hill 75, West 54

Oak Hill’s fast start was too much for host West to overcome as the Oaks extended its SOC II winning streak to 58 games in a 75-54 win to start conference action for both teams.

Paige Roseberry was one of four Oak Hill players in double figures as she led the team with 18 points. Tori Leader led all scorers with 25 in the loss.

The Senators travel Thursday to Wheelersburg and the Oaks take on South Webster.
