After taking a $50,000 dive in August, the county is reporting September permissive tax revenue is up $135,780.76 above what was taken in this time last year.

On Tuesday the county reported collecting $898,137.57 in permissive sales tax in September. Representing a $135,780.76 increase over September of 2011 revenue. For the year the counties permissive sales tax is up $642,619.04 when compared to 2011.

“This is definitely something we are very please with. Last month we were down $50,000 and this month we are up nearly $136,000,” said Skip Riffe, Chairman of the Scioto County Commissioners.

August’s sales tax was the second time in 2012 the counties permissive sales tax revenue has been down. Riffe said the rest of the year the figures have been positive.

“The (Scioto County Financial Planning and Supervision) Commission approved the commissioners transferring the remaining balance of the debt on the Juvenile Center of $577,611.41,” Riffe said. “There will no longer be a deficit in that fund. So in essence, the county and the general fund have been operating in the black now for a little over a year.”

It was recently announced Scioto County will be receiving $138,120.49 from the state casino tax. Two months ago the county reported already receiving $69,000 from the state casino tax.

Due to increased revenue, the commissioners were able to transfer enough money to eliminate the debt of the former Juvenile Detention Center. Riffe said now the county will begin to look at 2014, 2015 and 2016 budget projections.

“Once the state is satisfied with those numbers, they’ll release us,” Riffe said.

He said the financial planning and supervision commission approved a recovery plan for 2013,and the budgets for 2012 and 2013 are complete.
