Recently the Director of Parks and Recreation asked the Scioto County Commissioners to apply to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) NatureWorks Program for a reimbursable grant of $116,000 to purchase a new playground for Burkes Point in Wheelersburg.

“The grant would only cover 75 percent of the total cost of $116,356. It looks like it’s for a custom playground structure,” said Skip Riffe Chairman of the Scioto County Commissioners. “It’s a reimbursable grant which means we would have to pay for it first and get reimbursed. So, we will need to look at the mechanics of that and see if we could do it.”

According to a quote from Walnut Grove Playgrounds of Cincinnati the custom playground structure would cost $73,828. The labor to install the structure would cost $22,150. Wood chip resistant surface with plastic boarders will cost $10,624. The 372 linear feet of chain link fence with two walk gates would cost $6,554. The freight would cost $3,200. Bringing the total to $116,356.

Riffe was uncertain when or if a decision would be made to peruse this grant.
