Shawnee State University (SSU) confirmed Monday the search for a new director of the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts (VRCFA) has been narrowed to three people. The three candidates have been narrowed from a field of 30 people who initially applied for the position.
The three candidates invited to an on-campus interview are Steven Libman of Carmel, IN, Joseph Patti of Honolulu, HI and Roseann Swiergosz of Toledo, OH. According to university officials, the on-campus interviews are expected to be concluded by mid-December.
Libman’s resume indicates that he is an executive with experience leading major arts organizations. He successfully launched a $175 million three-venue performing arts center. He has produced more than 100 ballets, plays and musicals including 30 world premiers. Libman is currently President of the Libman Group that’s described as a full service arts management consulting firm that focuses on fundraising, operational planning, strategic, development and change management. Libman has a graduate degree from the Harvard University School of Business Administration and graduated from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
Patti currently works as the Theatre Manager at the University of Hawaii-Leeward Community College Theatre. Previous work experience includes Events and Festival Coordinator for the Appeal Farm Arts and Music Center in Elmer, N.J. and Business Manager/Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of Theater at the University of Central Florida among others. Patti has a Master’s of Fine Art in Theatre Management from Florida State University and a Bachelor’s of Arts in English, certificate in Theatre Arts from Siena Collage, in Loudonville, N.Y.
Swiergosz’s previous work experience includes stints as the Executive Director of the Bologna Performing Arts Center at Delta State University in Mississippi, Director of the Valentine Theatre in Toledo and Marketing and Public Relations Director for the Franciscan Theatre and Conference Center at Lourdes College. Swiergosz has a Master’s of Higher Education from the University of Toledo. Her post graduate work includes UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, Carnegie Mellon-Arts Management, Bowling Green State University Marking and Public Relations and SONY Institute; Video Editing.
In July, former director Carl Daehler stepped down to accept a position on the faculty at SSU teaching in the university’s music department.
Also in July, SSU President Dr. Rita Rice Morris named Dr. Tim Scheurer, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, as the Interim Director of the VRCFA during the school’s search for a permanent director.
