Division III Sectional Volleyball Tournament

No. 5 Wheelersburg def. No. 4 Coal Grove 25-13, 25-21, 11-25, 22-25, 15-8

Wheelersburg volleyball upset Coal Grove in five sets Saturday afternoon to advance to districts in Athens Tuesday.

Fay Proehl had 18 kills for the Lady Pirates while teammate Hannah Duckworth had 30 assists. Justice Silvey added 20 digs for Wheelersburg.

“We came out in the first game with a lot of enthusiasm and I think that’s what won it for us in the last game. We have a lot of leadership,” Wheelersburg coach Kendra Massie said.

Wheelersburg will face Chillicothe Huntington, the top-seeded team in from the Plains I District Tuesday at Athens High School.

No. 3 Northwest def. No. 6 West Union 25-21, 25-13, 19-25, 25-22

The Northwest Lady Mohawks defeated West Union in four sets Saturday afternoon to advance to the District Tournament in Athens Tuesday.

Melanie Smalley had 27 points, eight kills and nine digs for the Lady Falcons while teammate Maegan Lynn had 15 points, eight digs and 23 assists. Ashley Riley had eight kills and Rachel Jenkins added seven kills and six digs.

Darbie Jenkins had seven kills and six digs while teammate Haleigh Vastine had 10 kills and nine digs. Mandi Kidder pitched in a 22-dig effort from the Libero spot while freshman Alexus Lisath added 2 points and three blocks filling in after an injury.

Kalyn Mitchell had 10 assists and four digs while teammate Paige Simon had four kills.

“They dug deep through the injury and pulled together to focus as a team to win Game 4,” Northwest coach Judy Bayes said.

Northwest will face No. 2 Nelsonville-York who defeated Ironton 25-6, 25-14, 25-14 Saturday.

No. 2 Adena def. No. 10 Minford 25-9, 25-12, 25-17

Adena beat Minford in three sets Saturday afternoon to advance to the District Tournament at Athens High School.

The Lady Falcons lose Emma Turner, Madison Emmons, Johanne Wiborg and Abbey Wheeler to graduation.

No. 4 North Adams def. No. 5 Piketon 25-13, 19-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-13

North Adams took down Piketon in five sets Saturday afternoon.

North Adams will play No. 1 Zane Trace Wednesday of next week at Athens High School.

Division III Sectional Girls Soccer Tournament

No. 4 Minford def. No. 5 Chesapeake 4-3 (OT)

The Minford Lady Falcons beat Chesapeake 4-3 Saturday to advance to play the winner of No. 1 Zane Trace and No. 5 North Adams.

Division II Sectional Boys Soccer Tournament

No. 5 Waverly vs. No. 1 Unioto
