Robert Brooke, 79

Robert Jesse Brooke, 79, formerly of Peebles, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at the Georgetown, Ohio Veterans Home. He was born Jan. 14, 1933, in Columbus, Ohio, a son of the late Jesse Weaver and Clara Louise Sears Brooke.

A funeral director and embalmer, Bob was the owner and operator of the former Brooke Funeral Home in Peebles for 31 years. He was a 1951 graduate of Peebles High School, Ohio University Portsmouth, and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in the class of 1973. Bob was of the Methodist faith and an Army veteran of the Korean War, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Peebles Masonic Lodge, a 32nd degree mason, and he was a 50-year member of the Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon Sue Thompson Brooke on Nov. 7, 2004. Surviving Bob is one son, Robert Jay Brooke of Burlington, Vt; one daughter, Becky Jo Cooper of McDermott; two brothers, Thomas Sears Brooke of Redmond, Wash., John Marshall Brooke of Cleveland; one sister, Mary Louise Thomas of Seaman; two grandchildren, Chelsie and Codie Cooper; several nieces and nephews; and his late wife’s daughters, Rhonda, Regina, and their families.

Private interment services will be held at Locust Grove Cemetery at the convenience of the family with the Adams County Honor Guard officiating.

Services are under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
