It's that time of year again when the number of teams still playing is small but the post-season awards are plentiful.

The Associated Press girls Southeast All District Selections and the SOC I and II All Stars for both genders have been released and as is always the case, the names on the list highlight the incredible athletic talent in this region.

Associated Press Awards

The SOC was well represented on the AP All District Team. The Division IV first team included eight names and four of them were local. South Webster's Kayla Cook, New Boston's Kayla Wiley, Valley's Jordan Arbaugh and Green's Adrianne Blankenship all made the first team cut.

SOC II champion Oak Hill had the most selections across the board in DIvision III with Karissa Adkins and Rebecca Puckett making first team, Lakin Caudill and Breanna Butler of Oak Hill making third team and Mikie Strite and Taylor Hale earning honorable mentions.

Also in Division III, Oak Hill's Doug Hale earned coach of the year honors and Ironton's Mercedes Cockrel was co-player of the year.

New Boston had three selections with Wiley on first team, Missy Buckley on second and Alyssa Raines on third team.

SOC Awards

SOC champions, New Boston (SOC I girls), Western (SOC I boys) and Oak Hill (SOC II boys and girls) of course have the bulk of the selections.

New Boston's Kayla Wiley was the SOC I girls player of the year, while the award in the SOC II went to South Webster' Kayla Cook.

For the boys, player of the year went to Western's Vince Shanks in the SOC I and Oak Hill's J.D. Hale of Oak Hill in the SOC II.

Coach of the year honors went to the coaches of the championship schools, Jon Estep at New Boston, Trent Harrop at Wester and Doug Hale and Norm Persin of Oak Hill.

The SOC Swimming All Stars list was also released, with Wheelersburg, which won both the boys and girls divisions, making a strong showing.

Full results of the All Star teams can be seen on page B2 in the agate.

District 14 Coaches Awards

Also in the agate is the District 14 Coaches' Association Girls All-District Team.

Highlights of the All-District team include entire Division IV first team going to local athletes. The Division IV first team includes Dani Summers of Clay, Jordan Arbaugh of Valley, Kayla Wiley of New Boston an Kayla Cook and Erin Sherman of South Webster.

Division IV player of the year was Cook and coach of the year was Estep. Wiley was selected as the alternate representative for District 14 in the North/South All-Star game.
