Southern Ohio Medical Center (SOMC) confirmed Friday afternoon that the process of National Church Residences purchasing Riverview Retirement Center in Portsmouth has taken another step.
A purchasing agreement between SOMC and National Church Residences has been signed, but the sale will not go final until the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development approves the transaction.
“SOMC has provided the residents of Riverview with a wonderful place to live, and we don’t want to take away anything that has made this facility so special to its residents,” said Thomas W. Slemmer, President and CEO of National Church Residences in a released statement. “As a company that specializes in senior living, we have a proven track record of excellence that enables us to consistently improve the services and standards of care we provide to our residents.”
According to somc.org, “Riverview Retirement Center (located 500 Second St., Portsmouth) is a housing development for those 62 and older located in the historic Boneyfiddle section of Portsmouth. It consists of two renovated historic hotels beside a landscaped garden and courtyard. Apartments are fully equipped and close to a safe parking area. Residents are provided with 24-hour security, locked doors and inside mail facilities.”
According to released information from SOMC, the property and management responsibilities are expected to be transfered from SOMC to National Church Residences on Sept. 30.
“We chose to work with National Church Residences on this because of their expertise in senior living. They’re a national company with local roots, and they’re a proven leader in integrating home and supportive services. We know the residents of Riverview will be in good hands. We have truly enjoyed working with the residents of Riverview Retirement Center and assisting with the beautification of the area since 1981,” said Randy Arnett, President and CEO of SOMC, in a released statement.
According to the National Church Residences website, www.nationalchurchresidences.org, “National Church Residences is the nation’s largest not-for-profit developer and manager of affordable senior housing and services. With 330 plus communities in 28 states and Puerto Rico, including five Ohio-based senior health care communities, National Church Residences also owns and operates three additional Ohio continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs): National Church Residences Chillicothe, First Community Village, and Legacy Village.”
National Church Residences also operates Bristol Village in Waverly.
National Church Residences has stated there are no plans to alter the residents’ rent structure or remove amenities.
