Courtney Rose of Lucasville was among those who spoke at Wednesday’s Rally for Recovery event held at the steps of the Ohio Statehouse.

Rose is a member of the local chapter of SOLACE (Surviving Our Loss And Continuing Everyday).

“It was amazing to see the amount of people that was there. We had a good time celebrating recovery,” Rose said. “The rally was held to empower recovering addicts.”

She said having the event on the steps of the Statehouse gave those in attendance a firsthand look at how state government works.

“We need to show them (state legislators), we need treatment and resources for addicts. Addicts, while they are recovering, need to stand up and say we deserve health care and better treatment,” Rose said. “It was definitely an empowering day.”

Rose said that during her speech to those in attendance, she talked about her own journey as a recovering addict.

“I talked about how I got clean and the impact it’s had on my life. I told them I was not sure that I wanted to never use drugs again, I knew I never wanted to feel that way again and something needed to change. I was so tired of being sick and tired,” Rose said. “What has helped me stay clean was giving back to the community. Showing up and being involved.”

The Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (ODADS) in association with the Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities (OACBHA) will soon be launching the second round of a statewide media campaign called “Don’t Get Me Started.”

Rose was chosen to be a part of the campaign by telling her story.

The campaign is designed to address prescription opiate abuse in Ohio and features five Ohioans who lived through prescription drug abuse.

Rose said the campaign featuring her story should be released in the near future.
