The State Fire Marshal has ruled a fire that occurred at 172 Locust St., in Wheelersburg, early Wednesday morning was caused by arson and is offering a Blue Ribbon Reward. According to released information from the State Fire Marshal’s office the fire occurred at 2:57 a.m. Wednesday morning in a home.

The State Fire Marshall’s office is reporting that no one was home at the time of the fire; no injuries were reported. The fire caused heavy damage to the house and was contained to the interior of the home.

According to the State Fire Marshal’s office, investigators have ruled out all accidental causes and found specific evidence that indicates the fire was intentionally set. Because this is an ongoing criminal investigation, specific details about how and where the fire was set will not be released at this time.

The State Fire Marshall is offering a Blue Ribbon Arson Reward of up to $5,000 to anyone with information about the person or persons responsible for the crime. Anyone with information is asked to call the Division of State Fire Marshal at 1-800-589-2728, the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office at 740-354-7566, or the Porter Township Fire Department at 740-574-6030.
