WAVERLY — The Pike County Chamber of Commerce reported that Chamber President Greg Nichols died unexpectedly in his home Friday afternoon, June 22, at the age of 66.
Nichols of Waverly was born in Detroit, Mich., on Jan. 5, 1946. He began his term as Chamber president in January, but has been a member and supporter for many years.
“We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the Nichols family and all of you that were privileged enough to call Greg Nichols a friend,” Pike County Chamber Executive Director Shirley Bandy said.
In addition to his work with the Chamber, he was also a financial representative for Northwestern Mutual Financial Network and sales representative for Community Benefits, in Piketon. He was also a former president of Waverly Jaycees.
“Greg was part of a wonderful family. He was a friend to many, and he was a valuable community supporter and business leader,” Bandy said. “I would have to say Pike County is a better place because Greg Nichols lived here.”
Upon Nichols’ passing, Chamber Vice President Lindsay Schrader now becomes president.
“Pike County Chamber of Commerce will greatly miss our current present Greg Nichols. The Chamber appreciated the time he donated to all our local causes in an effort to make Pike County businesses better. Not only will he be sadly missed by his family, but by our community as well,” Schrader said.
Nichols was preceded in death by his wife in 2010, and is survived by three sons and four grandchildren. His funeral services will be Tuesday at Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Waverly Boys Basketball Program, c/o Waverly High School, 1 Tiger Drive, Waverly, OH 45690.
