Helen Lucille Turner, 88, of Portsmouth, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at SOMC.

She was born Dec. 1, 1923, in Jackson, Ohio, to the late Daniel S. Chandler and Lena Elizabeth Ramey Chandler. She was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Portsmouth Chapter No. 424 Order of Eastern Star and League of Women Voters.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Turner, Sr. June 15, 1991; two brothers, Hershel Chandler and Homer Franklin Chandler.

Helen is survived by one son, William E. (Rebecca J.) Turner, Jr. of Louisville, Ky.; one daughter, Helane (Carl S.) Horner of St. Augustine, Fla.; four grandchildren, Timothy Turner, Amy Turner, Carman Brookeman and Holley Horner; two great-grandchildren, Madelin Turner and Taylor Jo Turner; one brother, Harold Chandler of Dayton, Ohio; and two sisters, Hazel Spencer of Portsmouth and Haila (Jerry) Lewis of Arcadia, Fla. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at Cornerstone United Methodist Church with the Reverend Kym James officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at F.C. Daehler Mortuary Company in Portsmouth and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church.
