The singing duo of David and Jill James will appear Saturday night at Southern Ohio Opry, located five miles west of Lucasville off Ohio 348 on Henley-Deemer Road. David is the son of Bill and Carol Walch James, and has many friends, aunts, uncles and cousins in the Portsmouth area. He and Jill together have written more than 100 songs and perform with their band, Jamestown. The duo recently won a competition at Erie County Fair for the Colgate Talent Contest, and are scheduled to perform Sept. 13, in Cincinnati, and in Wheeling, W. Va., in December. David comes from a musical family. He began playing guitar at age 7, and performed many styles of music. He toured the nation in a rock band for many years and later moved to Los Angeles to record with former members of Blackfoot and Pat Travers. He has released seven CDs consisting of all original songs, and has opened for such stars at Billy Ray Cyrus, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw and many others. Jill has been performing on stage since she was 3. She comes from a musical family, and as a singer and songwriter released her first album, "All of Me," consisting of 10 original songs. She competed in the national finals of the Colgate Country Showdown in Nashville at the Ryman Auditorium, where she sang alongside Leann Rimes. David and Jill recently released a new CD - "With You" - consisting of 13 original songs, many of them duets. They are gearing up for several showcases in Nasvhille. Also appearing Saturday night will be Ashley Howe, Linda Whisman, Vicki Nickell and Ben Polley. Doors open at 6 p.m. and music begins at 7 p.m.
