Jordan, who was arraigned Thursday, faces charges of aggravated murder, murder, and tampering with evidence after being arrested early in September, within a day of the discovery of Layne’s body.
At the time of the arrest, Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said there was no clear motive for the murder, other than a possible argument between the two prior to the incident.
“Both of these guys have been in and out of the Scioto County Jail. The suspect (Jordan) has been in and out of here multiple times for disorderly drunk,” Donini said at the time of Jordan’s arrest. “I don’t know him on a personal level but I would guess that he’s probably an alcoholic. In a lot of these cases it’s the suspect stealing drugs from the victim, but in this case there is no indication of that.”
Donini said layne died as the result of multiple stab wounds.
Jordan is set for his first pre-trial hearing on Oct. 12.
