Charity ride/bike show is today

A charity ride/bike show will be today at Sciotoville Christian Church, Third and Bloom streets, Sciotoville, to raise funds for the youth activity program of the church. Registration will be at 11 a.m., with the ride scheduled to start at noon. There will be a free bike show from 2 to 4 p.m. There will be a registration charge of $10 per bike, with an additional $5 for a passenger.

The event also will feature music, food, door prizes, a cornhole contest and trophies for best of show, best metric bike and best American bike.

Smith presents special music

Alsbrooks Smith Jr., of Findlay, will present special music at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. services Sunday at the Wheelersburg United Methodist Church, 11605 Gallia St., Wheelersburg. He will perform arrangements of standard hymns and contemporary praise songs.

Smith, a graduate of Baldwin Wallace Conservatory and Indiana University, has served the music faculties of Findlay and Bluffton colleges, Bowling Green State University and has performed with the Lima Symphony. He currently is a performer and private instructor.

Organ concert is Monday

Deborah Brown, an organist from Andover, Mass., will perform at 7 p.m. Monday at Calvary Chapel, 1530 Franklin Ave. Brown has received the Service Playing Certificate from the American Guild of Organists, which is for a recognized level of performance.

The organ is a three-manual Austin that was built about 1919, and specifications remain the same with only one small tonal change, maintaining its native tone. The program will include works by Bach, Langlais, Franck, Gigout, Mendelssohn and Berlin.

The concert is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served following the concert.

Camp meeting begins Monday

The Little Scioto Valley Camp Meeting Revival will be Monday through Aug. 19 in the multipurpose building of Union Free Will Baptist Church, Ohio 140. The Rev. Jack Lassiter from Wilson, N.C., and the Rev. Kenny Klaiber will preach.

Back-to-School Bash planned for Aug. 19

Stockdale Church of Christ in Christian Union will be having a “Back-to-School Bash” from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 19. Activities will include games for children and a cornhole tournament for co-ed teams, ages 12 through adult. Prizes will be given to the top three teams. Cost for the tournament is $5 per person.

Also, we will have a free cookout with hot dogs and hamburgers, various side dishes and drinks.

All school-age children will be given some free school supplies to start the school year.
