Western holds lead in SOC I

The high school golf season has already officially started, nearly a week before Scioto County schools resume classes for the 2016-17 school year. The first of five rounds for the SOC I was held Wednesday, August 17, at the Little Scioto Golf Course in Wheelersburg, Ohio.

With overcast skies and at times rain falling on the course, golfers from South Webster, Notre Dame, Clay, Eastern and Western teed-off for the start of SOC I play in the 2016 golf season.

After the first round of golf played for the SOC I Championship, Western High School, located in Latham, Ohio holds at least a 4-stroke lead over rest of the SOC I field, with a round score of 182.

Clay and Notre Dame are each tied with round scores of 186, followed by Eastern and South Webster with team scores of 192 and 202 respectively.

Western’s Eli Montgomery was low medalist Wednesday, shooting a 38. Broc Jordan, also of Western and Quentin Alley of Eastern tied for runner-up with a 40 round score.

The second round will be played Thursday, August 25, at the Dogwood Hills Golf Course.
