Falcons take out Senators, 7-1

MINFORD — The Minford Falcons received their second conference win Monday evening, after they defeated the Portsmouth West Senators at the Minford baseball field. The Falcons defeated their SOC II foe Monday evening by nearly shutting out the Senators, but gave up a run in the seventh inning.

The Falcons took a quick lead early in the game, and continued to build on that lead throughout the rest of the game.

In the first inning, the Falcons put one run on the board, and continued that trend for the next two innings, adding one run in the second, and another in the third.

In the fifth inning Minford made a West comeback less likely, as the Falcons had their biggest inning of the night, bringing four runs across the plate, to increase their lead to seven runs, 7-0, over the Senators.

Eric Cook pitched the Falcons to victory Monday evening, as he was the pitcher of record for Minford, while Patrick Bays would get the loss for the Senators.

Three Falcons finished the night with a pair of hits, Aron Alley, Kody Kennedy, and Matthew Gullett.

Alley went 2-4 from the plate against West, which was highlighted by a double. He picked up an RBI as well.

Gullett was also 2-4 batting Monday night. He had an extra base hit, a double, which helped contribute to the Minford cause.

Kennedy was 2-2 while facing the Senators. He also drove in a run for Minford.

The Falcons had a another pair of hitters pick up an RBI as well.

Eli Daniels had one hit off four appearances at the plate, and drove in a run, while fellow Falcon Ian Tolle had a hit with an RBI from three at-bats.

Marty Knittel led the Senators in hitting Monday night in their loss to the Falcons. The Portsmouth West sophomore had two hits against Minford.

With the win, Minford improves to 5-2 overall, and 2-2 in the SOC II.

Minford will be in action again on Wednesday evening. They will travel to Oak Hill to start their two-game series against another SOC II opponent, the Oaks. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.

The Senators will continue conference play on Wednesday evening as well, when they host the South Webster Jeeps. The first game of the two-game series will have a 4:30 p.m. start time.
