Zieverink named player of the week

PORTSMOUTH – For the fourth time this season, and the sixth time in her career, Shawnee State women’s basketball player Ali Zieverink has been named the Mid-South Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday afternoon.

The West Chester, Ohio native led the No. 7-ranked Bears to a trio of victories this week, including a pair of wins over No. 14 University of Pikeville on Monday and Saturday.

In the opening game of the week, Zieverink went for 22 points and 16 rebounds on the road for her fifth double-double of the season en route to a 70-64 win over UPike. On Thursday, the senior forward tallied 17 and six, as the Bears defeated the University of the Cumberlands, 59-56, at Frank & Janis Waller Gymnasium.

On Saturday – playing in the NAIA Women’s Basketball Game of the Week – Zieverink tallied 22 points and eight rebounds, as the Bears again knocked off Pikeville, 93-75. Zieverink continues to lead the nation and Mid-South in scoring at 23.2 points per game, and field goal percentage, connecting on 61.9 percent of her attempts.

Zieverink and Shawnee State are back in action this week, traveling to Lebanon, Tenn., for a road-bout versus Cumberland University. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. ET at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center.
