The South Webster Lady Jeeps participated in the Tri State Hoops Throwdown at Fairland High School Saturday morning, where they defeated the Spring Valley (WV) Lady Timberwolves, 72-61.
“My girls played amazing and with such heart,” South Webster coach Kristie Johnson said.
The Lady Jeeps made their way to victory thanks in part to two double-double performances by Ellie Jo Johnson and Kacie Hall.
Ellie led the Lady Jeeps in scoring, finishing the contest with 25 points. Her points, along with her 12 total rebounds earned her a double-double. She was also named the game’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) by event staff. She scored 12 of her 25 points at the free throw line, sinking 12 of her 19 attempts.
Fellow Lady Jeep Hall also earned a double-double as a result of her excellent performance against Spring Valley. Hall finished the game with 15 points, and pulled down 10 total rebounds. She also swiped away four steals against the Lady Timberwolves.
“(She) did an amazing job on their best player,” Johsnon said.
Cheyenne Weakley had a superb showing against Spring Valley as well, as she scored 15 points on Saturday, while grabbing seven rebounds and three steals.
The Lady Jeeps nearly had three players with double-doubles on Saturday, as Kimber Johnson finished a single point shy of earning a double-double. Kimber added nine points to the Lady Jeeps cause, and had 10 total rebounds.
Johnson’s Lady Jeeps will travel to West Portsmouth Thursday evening, as they take on the Portsmouth West Lady Senators. Tipoff is scheduled for around 7:30 p.m. for the matchup between the two SOC foes.
