Titans dominate Indians

The Titans perfect run through the SOC continued Thursday night as Notre Dame dismantled Western 59-32 to improve to 10-0 in conference play and 14-2 overall.

Hagen Schaefer led Notre Dame with a game-high 18 points. Although Schaefer paced the Titans in scoring, Lexi Smith and Ragen Kayser picked up double-doubles to aid the home team’s efforts. Smith finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Kayser scored 13 while grabbing 10 boards.

“Those three dominated in all three facets of the game — offense, defense and on the glass,” Titans head coach JD McKenzie said. “It’s fun to watch them be as unselfish as they are and how they always get everyone else involved.”

No one displayed for of a willingness to get her teammates involved than Molly Hoover who finished with seven assists.

“Molly had a couple of highlight-film passes,” McKenzie said. “We were very unselfish with the ball, which led to the balanced scoring. We saw the open man and made some great passes.”

Even though the Titans are chasing a perfect conference record, McKenzie has continued to find flaws in his team’s game. On Thursday, he’s e hard pressed to find many mistakes made by his players.

“It was one of the better games we played this year,” McKenzie said. “Defensively, we were aggressive and that led to some good shot for us on the offensive end.”

Prior to the game, McKenzie was worried about his team getting off to a slow start and having to play catch up. However, after a 21-4 opening quarter, those worries quickly dissipated.

“Western is a very good team and we needed to get off to a good start,” McKenzie said. “We did a good job of getting stops and rebounds early, which led to early transition points for us.”

The Titans will look to continue their SOC run Monday at Clay.
