WHEELERSBURG- The Wheelersburg Lady Pirates defeated the South Webster Jeeps Monday evening by a score of 44-39. The win was special for Wheelersburg Head Coach Dusty Spradlin as he picked up his 200th career victory.
“The number speaks for itself,” said assistant Coach Jeff Brown. “Two hundred is a ton of wins. It truly goes to show how consistently he has won here at Burg year in and year out. It’s a system built on preparation: from practice, to scouting, to game planning and even in game adjustments. It starts with his focus and motivation for each and every game we play. He never underestimates our opponents and always has our girls focused.”
“He has had a lot of great players go through his system. Great players combined with great preparation make for a very well-oiled machine that has produced 200 wins.”
South Webster truly made Coach Spradlin earn his 200th win, too. Wheelersburg trailed by five points leading into the fourth quarter. That’s when the Pirates caught fire though, outscoring the Jeeps 19-9 in the final quarter and securing the win. Abbie Kallner was electric in crunch time, scoring all eight of her points in the fourth.
Sydney Holden led all scorers with 14 points. Kacie Hall led South Webster with 13.
“The game was tremendous from start to finish,” said Wheelersburg Head Coach Spradlin. “Both teams competed at a very high level throughout the contest. South Webster led by as many as seven points after trailing 5-1 early in the first. Both teams emptied the tank and battled on each and every possession.”
“The difference in the game was definatly the fourth quarter. We managed to score 19, and Abbie Kallner scored eight of those for us.”
South Webster travels to Waverly to take on the Lady Tigers Thursday. Game time is at 7:30. Coach Spradlin looks to pick up his 201st win Thursday when the Pirates host the Minford Falcons.
