The East Lady Tartans picked up a win over Fairview Saturday, 53-50.
“This evening’s game was a nail biter,” the Lady Tartans coaching staff said in a comment. “Fairview played very well and out-sized us.”
Shay Brown and Peyton Helphinstine had big games for East, as they held on for the close win over Fairview. Brown led the team with 18 points, and shot 86% from the free throw line, hitting six of her seven attempts.
Peyton Helphinstine finished just under Brown with 17 points in the Lady Tartan victory. Helphinstine hit two three-pointers, and shot 88% from the free throw line, as she sank seven of her eight attempts.
East battled to the end to pick up the win. With less than a minute to play, Helphinstine hit a floater to put the Lady Tartans up one.
Fairview came back shortly after hitting a two-pointer to retake the lead from East.
Helphinstine would strike again to put the final nail in the coffin for Fairview as she was fouled with 4.3 seconds left. After hitting both her free throws, she sealed the lead and win for East.
East will travel to Beaver, Ohio to face the Eastern Lady Eagles on Thursday evening. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
