Buzzer beater fuels Clay win

Thanks in part to two clutch late game shots, the Clay Lady Panthers picked up a huge road victory over SOC foe, the Eastern Lady Eagles, 52-49.

Trailing by two points, 48-46, with only 13 seconds remaining on the clock, Clay’s Regan Osborne hit a three-pointer to give the Lady Panthers a one point lead, 49-48.

That lead would not be safe however, as Eastern’s scoring leader, Carson Roney would tie the game, 49-49, after hitting a free throw, with only 1.9 seconds remaining in the fourth.

Clay Lady Panthers Basketball coach Scott Cayton immediately calls a timeout to set up his team’s full court play.

Afterwards is what every kid shooting hoops in their back yard dreams of, barely enough time on the clock for one shot, and a chance to win the game.

Clay in-bounds the ball in to Jensen Warnock. At about the halfcourt line, Warnock throws up a shot most kids never get a chance to take, but in their immaginations.

Sometimes immagination meshes with reality, and Thursday night in Beaver, Ohio was one of those times it did, as Warnock hits the halfcourt shot to give her team the 52-49 win over the Eastern Lady Eagles.

Warnock was not only the hero, but also the Lady Panthers leading scorer on Thursday. She finished the night with 20 points, and had a single three-pointer, the game winning halfcourt shot. She also earned a double-double, after pulling down 10 total rebounds.

Skylar Artis had a great night on the hardwood, scoring 16 points against the Lady Eagles. She picked up seven rebounds, four steals, and three assists as well.

Roney led the Lady Eagles, scoring 20 points.

Eastern will host the Piketon Lady Redstreaks Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for noon at Eastern High School.

The Clay Lady Panthers will travel to play Huntington Saturday afternoon. That game is set for a noon tip.
