Sciotoville- The East Lady Tartans defeated the Rose Hill Royals Wednesday afternoon by a score of 46-19. Peyton Helphinstine outscored the Royals herself, totaling a whopping 23 points during the game.

The Tartans started out playing tenacious defense. They limited the Royals to just seven first half points while putting up 32 themselves. East Head Coach Walt Monroe was very pleased with his teams effort.

“We played very well on defense all night,” said Monroe. “Both Peyton and Shay Brown played very well today. They motivated the rest of the team. We managed to get all the girls playing time during the second half.”

Shay Brown put in 10 points for the Tartans. Both she and Peyton have led the Tartans to a 6-4 record heading into the New Year. Coach Monroe is still trying to guide the program in the right direction, and he notes that things are starting to click for the Lady Tartans.

“We are getting better each game,” said Monroe. “We are starting to realize how to win. We started off a bit sluggish but through practice and game time experience the girls have come a long way. They are starting to really focus and buckle down and have a will to win.”

The East Tartans travel to Ironton to face off against the St. Joseph’s Flyers on Monday, January 4th. Tipoff is at 7:30.
