Lady Titans sink Vikings 57-36

Five out of six games on the road to begin the season — no problem.

The Notre Dame Lady Titans have not had a kind schedule to begin their quest for another SOC I title. Although Titan fans have had to visit the gas pumps quite often to get to the games, the Lady Titans remain undefeated with their latest victory — a 57-36 drumming over the Symmes Valley Vikings — occurring Thursday night.

Titans head coach JD McKenzie continues to be pleased with his team’s performance.

“Another big road win,” McKenzie said. “We have to keep working hard everyday. There are a lot of places we can improve.”

McKenzie would be hard pressed to find fault in Hagen Schaefer’s game. The junior guard led Notre Dame with a game-high 24 points, including knocking down all four of the Titans’ three-point field goals.

“Hagen was huge shooting the ball the way she did, and also penetrating the paint and finishing at the rim,” McKenzie said.

Ragen Kayser also had a strong night, scoring 14 points while battling a foot injury. That’s the kind of performance that has McKenzie excited about his team.

“She showed the kind of heart that exemplifies what this team is all about,” McKenzie said.

Defensively, the Titans held the Vikings to a mere 28 percent from the floor. While Symmes Valley only connected on 1-of-8 shots from behind the arc, the Vikings didn’t fare much better down low with Lexi Smith guarding the paint and controlling the glass. Smith finished with 20 rebounds while adding 14 points.

“Great team effort on the defensive side of the ball,” McKenzie said. “Lexi was huge for us on the boards with 20 rebounds. She really controlled the paint.”

Notre Dame will play its second home game of the season Saturday to face rival Clay. Tipoff is scheduled at 1 p.m.
