Notre Dame wins in overtime

NEW BOSTON – The Notre Dame Lady Titans tamed the Glenwood Lady Tigers 61-57 Monday night in New Boston. The two Southern Ohio Conference (SOC) foes opened up conference play in exciting overtime fashion, which saw the Lady Titans come out as victors. Notre Dame improves to 2-0 overall, and 1-0 in the SOC after defeating Glenwood. The Lady Tigers are 0-1 for the season and in their conference.

“Hagen Schaefer had an unbelievable game on both ends of the floor,” Notre Dame Coach JD McKenzie said.

Schaefer finished the night with a team high 24 points. Nearly half of her points came from the free throw line, where she was successful 11 times out of 15 attempts. Schaefer got nine points off three good three-point shots, and two baskets from the field.

Lexi Smith finished just two points shy of Schaefer, with 22 points for Notre Dame.

“Lexi had a huge night with a double-double,” McKenzie said.

Smith also brought down an impressive 24 rebounds for the Lady Titans.

Notre Dame also had a good showing from Katie Dettwiller, who finished with 15 rebounds on the evening, and Ali Smith, who contributed nine points to the Lady Titan cause.

Glenwood had four players in double digits by the end of the game, Cammy Oiler, Ali Hamilton, Mariah Buckley, and Kaylee Stone.

Oiler led the way for the Lady Tigers, putting up 17 points for Glenwood. Oiler had 10 points from the field, and one three pointer, as well as making four of her six free throws.

Hamilton scored 15 points on the evening, with 10 from the field, and a single three pointer. She also made two of her three free throws.

Stone added 11 points for Glenwood. She scored ten from the field, and one free throw from three attempts.

Buckley also finished in double digit scoring for the Lady Tigers, finishing with an even 10 points. Her totals included four points from the field, one three-pointer, and three free throws.

The game went into overtime tied at 47. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers cut their deficit to just three points.

However, Notre Dame responded well in overtime, outscoring Glenwood 14-10.

The Notre Dame Lady Titans will next travel to Lucasville to battle Valley on November 28th. That matchup will tipoff at 1:30 p.m.

Glenwood will host the Lady Indians of Western on Monday, November 30th. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
