BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY – For the third time in as many seasons, the Shawnee State volleyball program was able to put two individuals on the All-MSC list as Lauren Helbig and Madison Smith were each named to the Mid-South Conference’s Second-Team, conference officials announced on Wednesday evening.

Helbig, who obtained Second-Team All-MSC honors as a sophomore after obtaining 209 kills, a .232 attack percentage and 55.5 total blocks a season ago, drastically increased her totals to 322 kills on a blistering .309 attack percentage while obtaining 57.5 total blocks during the regular season – which paces the team in all three categories.

The Mansfield, Ohio product’s numbers stack up very highly amongst the Mid-South’s elite, as the junior sits second in the conference in attack percentage while ranking 11th in kills

For her career, the junior – who currently sits 43rd in the NAIA in hitting percentage with her .309 mark – has 657 kills on 1,578 attack attempts, which gives her a .268 attack percentage for her career. All of those totals will put the Mansfield, Ohio native inside the school’s top-20 in each category heading into her final season in 2016.

As for Smith, the senior from Orrville, Ohio capped off a personal storybook year with the honor, which was the first of her career.

During the 2015 campaign, Smith has recorded 695 digs – first in the conference – and 24 service aces en route to winning two Mid-South Defender of the Week awards – becoming the first player since Kirsti Yates in 2011 to win a weekly conference award in the process.

Additionally, the senior became just the second individual in program history to record 2,000 digs for a career in an Oct. 31 matchup against Cumberlands (Ky.), which was also the Bears’ Senior Day. At the end of the regular season, Smith was fourth in the NAIA in digs per game (6.15) and 11th in the association in digs per game (with her aforementioned total of 695).

For her career, Smith now has 2,075 digs and 102 service aces – the latter category currently putting the senior in a tie for 10th all-time in school history.

Shawnee State will start Mid-South postseason action with a contest against Pikeville at Noon CST, with the winner of that contest moving on to play Lindsey Wilson at 8 p.m. CST in the quarterfinal round. All games in the tournament will take place at South Warren High School in Bowling Green, Ky.
