The Waverly Post 142 baseball team improved to 3-0 in Region 5 on Tuesday with a 5-2 win road win over Hillsboro Post 129.

The Shockers were led by pitcher Shane Spriggs, who threw a complete-game three-hitter. The Oak Hill product struck out seven batters, and allowed just one earned run.

With Spriggs cruising, the Shockers went to work at the plate. In the second inning, Waverly High School’s Joe Henderson smacked a double, and promptly stole third. He later came home to score when Tiger teammate Jake Henderson reached safely on a Hillsboro infield error.

After former Minford Falcon Dylan Shockley doubled the score with an RBI in the third, Post 142 opened the game wide open with a two-run fourth. Joe Henderson and Jake Henderson lead off with a single and a hit by pitch. The two then came around to score on RBI hits by the Minford tandem of Shawn Merseil and Matt Joyce.

Hillboro finally cracked the scoreboard in both the fifth and sixth innings, but Spriggs was able to limit the damage. Spriggs also had a solid day at the plate, going 2-f0r-4 with a run.

Post 142 will take the field again on Wednesday, when they host the Canal Cougars.
