McFarland, Waverly win second SOC II match

Wheelersburg’s Mitchell McFarland widened his lead in the race for SOC II Golfer of the Year on Thursday, earning match medalist honors in the second conference meet of the season at Shawnee Golf Course.

McFarland shot a nine-hole score of 34, one shot ahead of Portsmouth West’s Jordan Tieman. McFarland now leads Tieman by four strokes on the individual conference leaderboard.

West’s chances for a second-straight SOC II title took a hit during Thursday’s match, as the Waverly Tigers extended their lead in the team standings. Waverly shot a combined 158, 10 strokes less than West’s 168. The Senators will now need to make up 14 strokes in the remaining matches to claim team conference victory.

The third of four SOC II matches will take place next Thursday at Little Scioto Golf Course.
