The West volleyball team escaped Manchester High School with a five-game victory over the Greyhounds, 25-21, 25-15, 16-25, 21-25, 16-14.

The Senators easily took games one and two to put the Greyhounds on the brink. However, Manchester bounced back to force a decisive fifth game. Though extra points were needed to decide the match, West was able to come away with the match by winning game five 16-14.

Offensively, the Senators (2-0) were led by junior Terra Butcher, who recorded a team-high 11 kills. Senior Mdaisyn Dillow followed right behind her with 10 kills. Hannah Dixon proved to be West’s top server on the night, smacking four aces.

Junior Gracie Evans led the way defensively for West, picking up 26 digs on the evening, while Kalyleigh Coleman was the Senator’s top passer with 32 assists.

The Senators take on rival Portsmouth on Monday before opening their SOC II season at Waverly on Tuesday.
