The 21st annual Fred Dillow Memorial (FDM) brought 130 race teams and a slew of fans into Portsmouth Raceway Park Saturday night for what has become one of dirt-track racing’s premier events.

The FDM A-Main winners included Jackie Boggs in the Late Models, Shon Flanary in the Modifieds, Duane Pick in the Limited Lates, and Zach Pendleton in the Bombers.

While those four racers proved to be tops in their respective divisions, the uniqueness of the Fred Dillow Memorial allowed multiple drivers to be winners in some fashion.

Where most so-called “big shows” are centered around maybe just one or two classes, the Dillow Memorial is a showcase for four different divisions, and there are many ways drivers can earn some extra coin besides simply winning the feature.

As for PRP’s fans, they got to witness all of Saturday’s action for a ticket price no different than any regular night, and they were certainly treated to some outstanding racing.

There was plenty of cash on the line in the Giovanni’s Pizza Late Model Division beginning with “Bozo’s Just Give Me One Lap Late Model Time Trials”… a tribute to the late Bozo Bragdon. Jackie Boggs pocketed $1,077 for being the fast qualifier in the Late Models.

Dresden’s Devin Moran picked up $233 for winning Sgt. Tim Moore’s Late Model Dash. Duane Chamberlin, Delmas Conley, and Stephen Breeding all earned $83 for claiming victories in the Impact Race Gear Heat Races.

Breeding won the Fred Dillow Memorial Best Appearing Late Model Award. Brandon Mason picked up $38.83 from 2Graf1c Distributions for being the first driver in the first Late Model B-Main to not transfer into the A-Main.

Moran earned an extra $50 from Jason Perry Racing for leading the first lap of the A-Main and an extra $400 for being the Ryan Pfunk Potter Halfway Leader.

Jackie Boggs and Moran raced hard over the first 25 laps of the 40-lap Lewis Family Racing/Johnny Raughtens Late Model Feature before Boggs finally got by Moran on lap 26. Moran held on for second and was followed by Jason Jameson, Duane Chamberlin, and Kenny Howell.

Mark Frazier, Jason Montgomery, Audie Swartz, Stephen Breeding, and Billy Gullion rounded out the top 10. Making up the rest of the 22-car field were Kevin Wagner, Kenny Christy, Kirk Phillips, Steve Casebolt, Jake Keaton, Brett Cornett, Charlie Jude, Delmas Conley, Matt Westfall, Jason Dupont, Robbie Lewis, and R.J. Conley.

Frazier was the Shain Custom Decals, Motorsports Graphics and Designs Hard Charger and earned $250 for advancing 10 positions.

For Boggs, Saturday’s $5,000 victory marked his third FDM win and his first since 2005. Only three other racers have multiple victories in the Late Model portion of the Dillow race. Jackie Boggs’ father, the late “Black Jack” Boggs won it twice. Both Eddie Carrier, Jr. and R.J. Conley are five-time winners of the annual event.

Like the Late Models, the R.W. Rental and Supplies Modifieds had plenty to race for as well. Church Hill, TN’s Shon Flanary not only earned $1,000 for winning the Tri-State Industrial Supply Modified Feature, he also captured $900 for claiming The Thomas “T.C.” Childress Modified Fast Time Award and added another $200 for being the Ryan Pfunk Potter Halfway Leader of the Modified A-Main. In total, Flanary won $2,100 on the night.

Devin Gilpin picked up $100 from Walker Construction in memory of Linda Walker for being the Modified Hard Charger. Gilpin moved up 12 positions in the feature and made things very interesting toward the end of the race.

Gilpin got to second and challenged for the lead several times before having to settle as the runner-up. Jeremy Rayburn, Craig Christian, and Ervin Vance made up the rest of the top five. Todd Robinson, Tony DeHart, David Jamison, Jeremy Hayes, and Michael Howard rounded out the top 10.

The five Modified heats were great. All witnessed a great deal of passing as none of the pole-sitters won. Shon Flanary, Michael Howard, Brian Skaggs, Jeremy Hayes, and Todd Robinson all picked up $83 apiece in memory of Pappy Harshbarger for winning Modified heats.

Pedro’s Brian Skaggs won the Fred Dillow Memorial Best Appearing Modified Award in Memory of Pappy Harshbarger.

Jim LeMaster and Jody Puckett both earned $125 for being awarded The Robinson Auto Sales “So Close” Award for being the first drivers in the two Mod B-Mains to not transfer into the feature.

Jim Barnett picked up $50 for receiving the Dangerous Dan Aldridge Tough Break Award, as he was the first driver to exit the A-Main.

In the O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Lates, the top 10 finishers in the Giovanni’s Wholesale Feature which paid $830 to win were Duane Pick, Kenny McCann, Dillon Huron, Cameron Logan, Billy Staker, Dennis Little, Russ Frohnapfel, Matt Melvin, Shane Bailey, and Ronnie Whitt.

Bailey moved up seven spots to receive the H&H Continuous Guttering Hard Charger Award which paid $100.

In the M&M Inflatables Bombers, the top 10 in the H&H Continuous Guttering/B&L Exhaust Bomber Feature which paid $600 to win were Zach Pendleton, Jason Spillman, Perry Dearing, Shane Pendleton, Wayne Hughes, Justin Jaynes, Matthew King, Brandon Hutchinson, Kasey Black, and T.G. Taylor.

Spillman came up 10 positions to claim the Diamond Detail Hard Charger Award which paid $100. Hughes and Jaynes were the Week’s Wrecker Service Heat Race winners.

The evening’s Long Haul Award went to Pennsylvania Late Model driver Jason Dupont, who traveled eight hours to race in the 21st annual Fred Dillow Memorial.

PRP will return to action this Saturday for www.vallerychevy.com Fan Appreciation Night. General Admission tickets will be just $5. Late Models, Modifieds, Limited Lates, and Bombers will be on the card. Gates open at 4 p.m. with racing at 7:30.
