The West Senators captured a Division III Sectional Championship in a four-set victory over the South Point Pointers at home Saturday.

With the victory, West improved to 17-6 on the season while advancing to district play.

“I’m very proud of my team,” Senators coach Brittney Sessor said. “They established goals at the beginning of the season and a sectional title was one of those goals. They’ve worked really hard, put lots of time and effort in to improving their skills and achieved their goal.”

According to Sessor, this is only the third sectional title in Senator volleyball history.

“Our program has grown so much the last few years and I’m incredibly proud of where were are now,” Sessor said.

Terra Butcher helped lead West to another sectional championship by recording 16 kills and three blocks. In the most crucial time, Sessor said Butcher took her game to another level.

“Terra Butcher had one of her best games of the season and really stepped up offensively,” Sessor said.

Defensively, Gracie Evans continued to dominate, recording 34 digs.

“Gracie Evans gave it everything she had, sacrificing her body, reading the attacks, and completing some beautiful digs and passes,” Sessor said.

Kayleigh Coleman continued to add to her historic assists mark, recording another 34 Saturday while also contributing 12 digs. Haleigh Throckmorton also had a strong performance, finishing with eight kills and 14 digs. Hannah Dixon finished with six kills and 12 digs.

While Sessor knows the season is far from over, West will have to replace several prominent players after the championship run concludes.

“We will be losing nine fantastic seniors after this season is over and we will have to rebuild some,” Sessor said. “We have an awesome junior varsity program and a great group of younger girls coming up, so with time and effort, I look for the success of our program to continue.”
