Earlier Obituaries are avalable by searching for the person's name in the search bar at the top of the page.
Obituaries are submitted to the Daily Times through the funeral home/cremation society handling arrangements. The death must be verified through the funeral home/cremation society.
The funeral service which is handling the arrangements may fax or e-mail the information to the newspaper. If a paid obituary is requested, the funeral service sends the information to the newspaper, then the newspaper bills the funeral service and the funeral service bills the family.
Here are the guidelines for submitting a obituary:
Obituaries submitted by an individual (not the funeral service) must be verified with a funeral home or crematory service. Therefore the individual who is submitting the obituary must provide the name and city of the funeral home or the crematory service or a copy of the death certificate.
All paid obituaries which are submitted by the family or friends must have the charges paid in advance. A credit card number, name on credit card and expiration date, and the ZIP Code for the person whose name is on the card are required.
Once the death is verified, the obituary is typed and faxed back to the individual who submitted the obituary. Photographs are permitted with paid obituaries. The obituary must be checked for mistakes and approved by the family member or funeral home before publication.
The paid obituary must be proofed and approved by 4 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
If a paid obituary is not possible, a free death notice is available, which includes the name and age of the deceased and time/location of services.
All paid and free obituaries which are submitted must be accompanied by a name, full address and telephone.
Any questions or concerns about information in a published obituary must be directed to the funeral home that arranged the information for publication. The Daily Times makes every effort to insure accurate information, but disputes among surviving relatives over information included in obituaries must be directed to the funeral home or crematory service.
