Follow sign posts along yellow brick road

FRANK LEWIS

PDT Staff Writer

You’ve seen Dorothy travel the yellow brick road, but you probably haven’t seen her learn how to follow directions. The Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities (SCBDD) will present “Sign Posts,” a play on rights and responsibilities.

“This performance will be a fun and interactive way of sharing the rights and responsibilities of individuals with developmental disabilities,” said Shawn Jordan, awareness coordinator for SCBDD. “Laura Womack, director and creator of this performance, has really outdone herself this year in putting together a learning experience that is fun and exciting for all ages.”

Womack, who is a service and support administrator at SCBDD, said there are more than 50 individuals participating from all over Scioto County.

“We have several individuals who are a part of Scioto County DD as well as many participants from area businesses such as Southern Ohio Medical Center who have stepped forward to provide their talents,” Womack said. “There is a great deal of entertainment for those who come and watch this performance, but the message within it is what is important.”

The play, which involves characters from the Wizard of Oz, follows Dorothy and her friends down the yellow brick road. Along the way, they meet some unlikely characters and situations. But by following the sign posts, they find the help to guide them on their way.

Two performances will be held May 8. The first will be held at Vern Riffe School at 1:15 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium. The second performance will be held at G Entertainment Live in Wheelersburg at 6:30 p.m. The cost of admission is $1.

Jordan said anyone wanting more information about the Scioto Board of Developmental Disabilities and all of the services available, can visit them online at sciotodd.org, like them on Facebook at sciotodd and follow them on Twitter @SciotoDD.
