A Wheelersburg girl is being credited with saving her family after a fire broke out in the family home Monday morning.
Shannon and Randall Boggs credit their daughter, 11-year-old Braidyn Boggs, with alerting her parents and three siblings when she discovered the blaze.
“This is our little hero,” Shannon Boggs said. “She came over the flames and said ‘mommy there’s a fire,’ and then she ran out.”
Braidyn Boggs takes the praise in stride.
“I just saw glowing colors, and I alerted everybody else,” Braidyn Boggs said.
Porter Township Fire Chief Emmett Hatfield described it as a fully-involved structure fire when his department arrived on the scene at 50 Locust St. in Wheelersburg after being called out at 8:39 a.m.
“All of the residents got out,” Hatfield said. “We’re not sure about the cause right now, it’s still under investigation. We did call the State Fire Marshal’s Office just to help us investigate.”
Hatfield said as soon as his department turned onto the road and saw they smoke, they called out the Green Fire Department to assist.
“We called Green early to get the water,” Hatfield said. “Because we have a limited water supply in this area. Everything worked out — we got here quick, and it was a quick knock-down.”
