The Kentucky State Police in Ashland have arrested a Stanton, Ky. resident after conducting an investigation into the death of a two-month-old infant. Brett R. Thompson, 18, of Stanton, was arrested, charged with Murder and lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center.
On Saturday, the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department responded to 110 Caroline Drive in Westwood, after receiving a report of an unresponsive two-month-old infant female. Boyd County EMS also responded to the residence and transported the infant to King’s Daughters Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased at 10:34 a.m. by Boyd County Deputy Coroner Ralph Beadle.
On Sunday, an autopsy was conducted at the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office and it was determined the infant’s death was a homicide as a result of blunt force trauma. According to authorities, the infant had multiple head and brain injuries which resulted in the death. Upon completion of the autopsy The Boyd County Sheriff’s Department contacted KSP Post 14 and requested the investigation be assigned to a detective.
Detective Ben Cramer responded and began an investigation into the death. During the course of the investigation, the official report said it was determined Brett R. Thompson, who is the mother’s boyfriend, had struck the infant in the head.
Also responding and assisting during the course of the investigation, were the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department, Boyd County EMS, Boyd County Coroner’s Office and The Kentucky State Medical Examiners Office.
The case remains under investigation by Cramer.
