The man charged with kidnapping in the reported attempted sexual assault of a woman near Greenlawn Cemetery has his next court date scheduled. Jeffrey Swick, 24, of West Portsmouth, faces multiple charges in an incident that occurred in August of 2012.
“He is set on July 3 possibly for a change of plea. That could be changed to a pretrial, because nothing is set in stone yet,” Scioto County Assistant Prosecutor Julie Hutchinson said. “We’ve discussed a couple of things, but I’m not sure if he is going to enter a plea that day or not.”
The day after an incident in which a woman said she was attacked while jogging in the area of Greenlawn Cemetery, Portsmouth Police met with the alleged victim who gave them information about the man she said attacked her. Based on that information, police turned their attention to Swick and he was arrested as he left his work place the next afternoon.
“We interviewed him and he subsequently confessed to the crime he is charged with (kidnapping),” Portsmouth Police Detective Sergeant Jim Charles said at the time of the arrest.
Hutchinson said Swick is charged with kidnapping, abduction and gross sexual imposition.
