Volunteers with the Potter’s House Ministries were recognized by the Internal Revenue Service this week for their participation in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program during the 2012 tax filing season.
During the 2012 tax season Potter’s House Ministries volunteers helped to complete 650 state and federal income tax returns. Those refunds totalled $732,000.
Jodie Stanley, spokeswoman for Potter’s House Ministries, said to become a VITA site Potter’s House Ministries volunteers had to go through a six-stage process.
“The program we use is through the Ohio Benefit Bank and cuts down on mistakes and things that can go wrong on a tax return with an individual doing it themselves,” Stanley said.
Shelley Langhirt, Senior Stakeholder Relationship Tax Consultant with the IRS, presented Potter’s House Ministries VITA volunteers with certificates of appreciation honoring their dedication and support of the program.
“The Potter’s House is the sole VITA site in this county, helping hundreds of families here. That translates to valuable dollars staying in the community,” Langhirt said in a released statement.
Stanley said the Potter’s House Ministry plans to continue to be a VITA site into the future.
