Ohio’s U.S. Senate race continues to be a close one, with incumbent Democrat Sherrod Brown now inching slightly ahead of Republican challenger Josh Mandel.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in the Buckeye State shows Brown with 44 percent support to Mandel’s 41 percent. Three percent like another candidate, and a sizable 12 percent remain undecided.
This Ohio survey of 500 likely voters was conducted April 18 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is plus/minus 4.5 percentage points with a 95 percent level of confidence.
Brown was elected in 2006 by defeating two-term Senator Mike DeWine, who subsequently ran for and was elected Ohio Attorney General. Before his election to the U.S. Senate, Brown was a member of the United States House of Representatives, representing Ohio’s 13th Congressional district from 1993-2007.
Mandel is the current state treasurer, has served as state representative for the 17th District and is a Marine Corps veteran.
