A Wheelersburg woman has been indicted on a charge of domestic violence after being arrested for stabbing her boyfriend. Phyllis Michelle Niner, 37, of 106 Allegheny Hill, is charged with stabbing Jeffrey Sowards, 48, also of 106 Allegheny Hill.

According to the official report from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was called to a stabbing report in the 8000 block of Hayport Road in Wheelersburg in mid-March. Upon arrival, deputies located Sowards standing in a parking lot. The report said Sowards was trying to cover his hand because it was bleeding and the deputy noticed a knot over his left eye was also bleeding.

According to the report, Sowards advised deputies that Niner had stabbed him above his left eye with a pair of scissors, then stabbed him in his left hand as she was driving him down the street.

Sowards reportedly told deputies the two were arguing when she suddenly backhanded him in the face and tried to hit him again. He told authorities he blocked her arm. It was then he said she grabbed scissors located between the seats and stabbed him over her left eye. Sowards said he grabbed her neck attempting to hold her away, and that she then stabbed him in his left hand, creating a laceration.

The Sheriff’s report says Sowards told officers she had taken meth earlier in the day. He then advised she had gone toward Granite Street, which was one block over and that she was carrying a knife that had been in the car.

Deputies drove to Granite Street where they found Niner on a porch. Deputies said, as they approached her, she began to jump up and down and cry, and that she was talking fast. Deputies attempted to calm her down and a woman living at that address told them she ran up on her porch carrying a knife that was now sitting in the dirt next to the porch. Deputies also noticed a syringe in her front pocket and asked her to take it out. They then advised dispatch to send an ambulance.

When EMS arrived, they reportedly noticed needle marks in the crease of her arm, and asked if she was using drugs. Deputies said she said she stated no, but it was marijuana. She was asked again, and then she reportedly told deputies she had used heroin earlier as well. Niner told deputies she was stabbed, but they couldn’t find a stab wound.
