PDT Staff Writer

The first Garrett Maloney Battle of the Bands will take place Saturday as a part of the Scioto Rally For Recovery in Tracy Park.

The Battle of the Bands will start with the Josh Stewart Band taking the stage at noon. The band Wake Up, Wake Up will take the stage at 12:45 p.m., and the band Hidden Drive will take the stage at 1:15 p.m. The band While We Wait will take the stage at 1:45 p.m., with the band Talk is Cheap taking the stage at 2:15 p.m. The band Came Out Swinging will take the stage at 2:45 p.m. The band Surrogates will take the stage at 3:15 p.m., the band Observer will take the stage at 3:45 p.m. The final band of the day, Hampton Avenue, will take the stage at 4:15 p.m.

Roger Sessor, Jr., Executive Director of the Garrett C. Maloney Memorial Foundation said the day will be filled with fun and excitement. He said the Battle of the Bands will feature a wide array of music, and encouraged people to stop by the park and listen to the bands.

Lisa Roberts, spokesperson for the Rally For Recovery, said the event is being held to give the community time to celebrate past successes in combating prescription drug abuse. She said that throughout the planning process the event has ended up with a lot of partners, including SOLACE, The Garrett Maloney Foundation, and the Brothers of the Wheel Motorcycle Club.

“As we were planning for the event, we kept adding more to the rally. Now it has turned into an all-day, fun-filled entertainment extravaganza, with something for everyone,” Roberts said. “Our hope is to turn this into an annual event.”

At 2 p.m. the Brothers of the Wheel will hold a poker run in the park. Then from 5 to 7 p.m. will be the events called “Scioto’s Got Talent” and “Recovery Rocks.”

“For Scioto’s Got Talent we have some entertainers coming in. For Recovery Rocks, we have some people who will be telling their stories about recovery from alcohol and drug addiction,” Roberts said. “The main event of the rally will take place at 8 p.m. with a concert from country artist Rick Ferrell. Jake Tolliver is warming Rick up.”

Franklin Furnace native Marti Dodson — formerly of the band, Saving Jane — will be performing along with Ferrell.

“We are selling reserved seating for the concert. Those tickets are $10. Those tickets can be purchased by calling the Garrett Maloney Foundation at 740-876-9171 or at the Portsmouth Health Department, at 605 Washington Street Portsmouth,” Roberts said.

At the end of the event SOLACE will be conducting a luminary launch. Roberts said, all of the proceeds from the event will go to fund indigent addiction treatment services for people in need.

There's that Lisa lady, is she health department or chamber with Developer Albrecht? We are still riding the wave of the pill mills extravaganza when it was the state and Fed's that did the heavy lifting and poor Walton Jr. who got thrown under the bus, again, like Todd Book?

And the PDT's carried that article telling us that the State of Ohio told the local Rehab houses, Hughes Counseling Centers, our cottage industry, that that new drug they were using was not doing the trick but was prolonging their addiction, dah.

Meaning that the PILL MILLS just moved from the private sector to the NGO's sector?

Where's the other groupies riding the wave, SSU, SOMC, et al? The partner's do not have the presence of the any of the Health Coalition? Where are they, taking a pass for other Photo Opts later stringing this out?

Was there permits and fees and the like taking this from the private sector?

Where's the money going again? What's this foundation about? Guess we are supposed to know, or we are dumb readers? "Hey, it's 2 blocks past the Kirsch house?"

What is the latest on the Health Coalition? Any free clinics yet like the rest of our USA?
