A man is facing extradition from Kentucky to Ohio after reportedly shooting a woman in his car while in Sciotoville Tuesday night.

Scott Andrew Wilson, 22, whose last known address is with the U.S. Army at Fort Bragg, N.C. is charged with felonious assault after reportedly wounding Shannon Britt, 36, of Charlotte, N.C.

Portsmouth Police said they received their first call about the shooting at 8:21 p.m., and that the shooting had occurred at the intersection of Harding Avenue and Winchester Street in Sciotoville.

Jeff Brant of Brant Funeral Services was concluding a viewing when he was alerted that a woman had been shot across the street.

“Two of my tenants came and got me and told me there was a girl that had been shot,” Brant said. “Everyone had left and I was in the lounge talking to the minister. I observed her and then went in to call Portsmouth Police and I told them I needed an ambulance, because there has been a shooting at my funeral home.”

A witness, who wished not to be named, was in the vehicle and said the suspect became irritable and displayed a handgun. The occupants of the vehicle, according to several witnesses, were visiting from out of state for a funeral.

Wilson reportedly fled the scene in his vehicle, and the victim was taken to Southern Ohio Medical Center, suffering from a grazing gunshot wound of the face and hand.

“The bullet penetrated her right hand,” Portsmouth Police Detective Sergeant Jim Charles said.”She is currently out (of the hospital), but I know that she has follow-up appointments that have already been laid out for her.”

Wilson was picked up a short time later in Greenup County, Ky. on a traffic stop. Deputy Larry Pancake of the Greenup County Sheriff’s Office said Wilson faces charges of possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. Pancake said after Wilson clears charges there he will be on his way back to Ohio, the same scenario reported by Portsmouth authorities.

“As of right now, I have a warrant for his arrest through (Portsmouth) Municipal Court, for felonious assault,” Charles said. “They (Greenup authorities) are aware we have the warrant out. The suspect, Wilson, indicated last night that he wishes to come back to Ohio. After the outcome of his case over in Greenup, he can either waive extradition back to Ohio voluntarily, or we have to get a Governor’s Warrant if he fights extradition, which I don’t think he will.”

Charles indicated when the case goes to the Scioto County grand jury, there will most likely be additional charges.

“The one (charge) for felonious assault basically would be able to get him from Kentucky back to Ohio if he volunteers to come back,” Charles said. “If he doesn’t, then we have to get a grand jury indictment, and then (Scioto County Prosecutor) Mark Kuhn’s office would get what is called a Governor’s Warrant.”

Charles said reports that Wilson rolled the car at the Ohio 522 exit off of Ohio 52 were wrong.

“He did not,” Charles said. “The witnesses thought that he did, but basically what he did was he slid off the road down the embankment. He stayed upright and basically drove it out of the embankment.”
