Despite an overall drop of attendance at this year’s Scioto County Fair was down, Scioto County Fair Board President Darren Gahm is still calling it a good week.
“The overall attendance was down just a little but overall everything went great,” Gahm said. “This years entertainment was good and the 4-H livestock auction sales was up.”
He said the U.S. Motocross Championship Series on Monday was a good change this year and could possible return even bigger next year.
In addition to the U.S. Freestyle Motocross, Country music acts Jerrod Niemann performed on Tuesday and Little Big Town on Wednesday, there were two performances of the Circus Continental on Thursday, Exile performed on stage Friday and the annual Demolition Derby closed-out the fair on Saturday.
At mid-week the fair board was reporting increased attendance numbers. For the first three days of the 2012 fair, 5,427 people attended opening day on Monday, then 5,649 on Tuesday, and attendance skyrocketed to 7,828 people on Wednesday — 19,517 in those first three days. Despite a strong opening, the fair concluded on Saturday with fewer attending compared to last year.
Gahm said the Scioto County Fair Board will meet later this month to assess this year’s fair, and to look at ways to improve the event next year.
