Scioto County resident and Senior at Minford High School, Olivia Thoroughman will be competing Wednesday for the title of Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen in Mansfield, Ohio.

“She was crowned Miss Portsmouth Outstanding Teen in Mansfield in March. Since that time she has been preparing for the pageant where she will compete in such categories as fitness, talent, interview, evening gown and others categories,” said Lori Lowe, a pageant advisor to Thoroughman. “She has also been out promoting her platform.”

Lowe said Thoroughman’s platform is called “heart to heart,” promoting heart healthiness in kids and teens.

“She has presented to Kiwanis, presented to local schools and as a part of her platform, has developed a coloring book that SOMC has published for her. She has been handing those out to kids and on Sunday she participated in a parade as a part of pageant activities, where volunteers where passing them out along the route,” Lowe said.

During the pageant Thoroughman will be competing against 18 girls for the title of Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen. According to Lowe, if Thoroughman would win on Wednesday, she will go on to compete in the Miss America Outstanding Teen competition.

Thoroughman is a previous Teen Miss River Days. Lowe and Pam Rase serve as mentors for the Miss Ohio program and have been mentors to Thoroughman. Lowe said her and Rase are also in the preliminary stages of bringing a preliminary Miss Ohio pageant back to Portsmouth.

“We are exploring the options of bringing a Miss Ohio prelim back to Portsmouth. We are working with the Miss Ohio board to do that. We used to have Miss Portsmouth here and we have not had that for a while. So we are exploring options and working with the Miss Ohio board to re-establish that here.”

Lowe said a delegation of family and friends will be traveling to Mansfield in support of Thoroughman.
